Saint Mary’s Hospital for Women and Children was founded over 200 years ago.

This large and vibrant hospital providestertiary services to the North West in Obstetrics, Fetal and Maternal Medicine, Gynaecological Oncology, Urogynaecology, Reproductive Medicine, Genetics, Neonatal Medicine and Neonatal Surgery.

This is a 12 month fixed term renewable appointment within the Directorate of Anaesthesia at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust. This post will provide applicants the experience of working within a busy tertiary referral centre for obstetric anaesthesia. The post is ideal for applicants who have some experience in obstetric anaesthesia and who wish to develop obstetrics as an ongoing career aim or for those keen to advance their skills in preparation for ST4 or portfolio pathway application. RCOA stage 2, stage 3 and special interest areas (SIA) modules are all supported in this unit. There are many areas in which the applicant can further develop their obstetric portfolio. Applicants with a specific area of interest may wish to concentrate their efforts in that particular area.

The opportunities for research are extensive, including reviewing the placenta accreta spectrum, TEG coagulation profile of the parturient, enhanced recovery in obstetrics, heart disease in pregnancy, maternal critical care and obstetric anaesthesia clinic database analysis to name a few. Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the authorship of guidelines, quality improvement projects, and audits. It is expected that the candidate will contribute to a national publication and /or a presentation at the Obstetric Anaesthesia Association (OAA) meeting whilst in post.
