An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Technician with leadership skills to take on a Workshop Supervisor role at a busy commercial vehicle workshop in Burton. You’ll lead and support the day-to-day running of your shift while staying hands-on, ensuring all repairs and servicing meet VOSA and company standards.

Key Responsibilities of a Workshop Supervisor / Shift Chargehand / HGV Technician

• Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and trailers to a high standard
• Lead and manage the workshop team during your shift to ensure productivity and compliance
• Assist the Branch Manager with shift planning and workshop operations
• Work closely with the parts department to ensure efficient repair processes
• Attend roadside breakdowns and support customer needs when required
• Ensure all compliance paperwork, job cards, and service records are completed accurately
• Maintain and promote high health and safety standards within the workshop
• Keep the workshop clean, organised, and professional
• Attend ongoing training to stay updated on vehicle technology and product knowledge

Skills and Qualifications for a Workshop Supervisor / Shift Chargehand / HGV Technician

Essential

• Proven experience as an HGV Technician with supervisory or Chargehand experience
• NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Good knowledge of health and safety practices in a workshop environment
• Current UK driving licence

Desirable

• IRTEC inspection licence
• HGV and ADR licences
• Confident diagnostics, problem-solving, and decision-making ability
