Summary

The post would be ideal for those wishing to pursue a non-consultant career grade post in Emergency Medicine. The post would also be suitable for an experienced Clinical Fellow / Registrar who wishes to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and would like to consolidate their experience and confidence or would like to work in a Major Trauma Centre. You MUST have completed MRCEM plus have your IAC sign off to be eligible for a Tier 4 Senior role OR full MRCEM to be considered for Tier 3 Junior role Hold valid ALS and ATLS life support qualifications (in date) You will have at least 5 years post MBBS (or equivalent) At least three years working in an ED in the NHS at CT3 (or above) level is essential Once in the CESR role, the department not only will support the post holders with their application for Specialist Registration, but will also provide planned secondments to acute medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia and Paediatric Emergency Medicine (in no particular order). The Department has 24 hour Consultant cover, and the recent workforce investment has supported an increase across the entirety of our clinical establishment. The CESR programme at NUH has run for 6 years and is extremely successful. We have already seen three of our NUH ED CESR graduates progress from trainee to Consultant here at the trust and two have become substantively employed at NUH. Responsibilities and duties of the post include: Working in our ED encompasses many management skills such as managing the shop floor, keeping to the four hour target and constant reprioritisation of tasks. The assessment and provision of treatment to patients attending ED, liaising with appropriate specialties for ongoing management. Acting as resuscitation team leader for seriously ill or injured patients, including children, presenting to ED. Liaising with the shop floor consultant in charge for clinical and administrative advice as appropriate. Working with the nurse in charge and the wider multi-professional team to ensure effective running of the department, supporting the delivery of safe, timely, quality care, in line with the National Emergency Care Standards. Contributing to the provision of an effective emergency medicine service in collaboration with colleagues in the multi-professional team. The supervision and training of junior doctors, Advanced Practitioners, Physicians Associates, Urgent Care Practitioners and Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
