Job overview

We are recruiting for a Head Housekeeper to join our team at the Didcot Community Hospital to manage porters and cleaners in order to ensure that all service standards are met and maintained. 

The housekeeping team works closely with nursing staff to ensure a clean and safe environment for our patients as well as overseeing catering provisions. The role is full time (37.5 hours per week) and will involve shift work (7am – 3pm and 11am-7pm), weekends and bank holidays over a rolling rota, which will be paid at an enhanced rate.

Main duties of the job

  • Directly manage porters and cleaners and ensure that all service standards are met and maintained
  • Carry out a localised induction with all new staff members managed by post holder
  • Conduct annual appraisals and monthly supervisions for managed staff
  • Be responsible for authorising annual leave and recording and managing sickness levels
  • Ensure that all staff mandatory and task specific training is completed in liaison with Facilities co-ordinator.
  • Support line manager with rotas and cleaning schedules
  • Ensure that staffing levels are maintained to adequately meet the service requirements; to highlight any issues immediately to line manager
  • Managing stock levels for cleaning consumables, linen and food stock 
    levels and highlighting shortages to line manager to order

  • NVQ level 3 relevant certificate or relevant experience

  • Experience of moving & handling activities
  • Basic Cleaning Skills
  • Some knowledge of cleaning chemical/materials

  • Previous experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of working in a mental health care setting

  • Ability to work by themselves as well as being part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • An understanding of the principles of delivering quality customer service
  • IT skills – basic knowledge of Microsoft word and excel
