Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical physiotherapy team at Wexham Park Hospital, who provide the physiotherapy provision Older Persons Medicine. This is an exciting role where you will be able to manage and lead on a caseload of developing close MDT working links with the ward, be able to set goals and create discharge plans with patients and their families. There is also the opportunity to support and train other assistants in Band 2 and Band 3 roles within the wider Medical Team.

As a department we have a wide range of opportunities for development through in service training , courses and opportunities to take on different representative roles for groups such as Race and Ethnic Diversity group, Health and Wellbeing and Patient Experience as some examples.

To work under indirect supervision of a physiotherapist in providing a high standard service to the medical patients.

The post holder will:
• Assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by a senior physiotherapist.
• Carry out clinical tasks (such as instruction/supervision and prescription of daily individual exercise programmes), delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
• Once competent, carry out basic range of movement exercises.
• Carry out clinical assessments independently such as range of movement, risk assessments, stairs assessment and discharge.
• Carry out assessments and education for patients
• Monitor stock of disposable physiotherapy equipment and liaise with the Ward clerk re ordering items.
• Contribute to the induction of new physiotherapists, physiotherapy students on the surgical wards.
• Participate in continued personal education.

• To work effectively within the Trust’s Adult Medical Team.
• Within specific guidelines and following training, to be responsible for a clinical caseload working within codes of practice and professional guidelines. This includes patient documentation in both professional and medical notes.
• To perform complex aspects of assessment in the hospital
• To perform complex aspects of patient care in the hospital with direct and indirect supervision such as carrying out assessments, daily supervised patient exercise sessions and progression of exercise.
• To motivate patients to exercise and to address barriers to compliance
• To be responsible for performing given tasks and reporting any concerns to the Specialist Physiotherapist or appropriate member of the clinical team through daily feedback.
• To be aware of and adhere to Trust and local policies and procedures.
• To provide programmes (exercise prescription) of activity that have a therapeutic basis following evidenced based guidelines laid down by the Senior Physiotherapists.
• To demonstrate a physical ability to carry out physiotherapy interventions and therapeutic handling without direct supervision. There is a frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several short periods during the day.
• To be responsible for the safe use of physiotherapy equipment, adhering to the Trust medical device policy. This includes competency and accuracy to use equipment by you, other healthcare professionals, carers and patients.
