Crynodeb

We are looking to recruit a 10PA/full-time, substantive, paediatric emergency medicine consultant to join the dynamic West London Children’s Healthcare Acute Paediatrics and Paediatric Emergency team, with the post based predominantly at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.

The successful applicant will join the existing team of Paediatric Emergency and Acute general paediatric consultants. Consultant posts have increased in recent years to enhance the clinical cover of the department and now includes near 24-hour consultant delivered care out of hours. The department has a full weekend and midweek late shift cover to 22:00, which translates to a 1:6 weekend and weekly late shift commitment. Night shifts are covered by a separate resident consultant rota. Staffing levels are matched by excellent facilities in a recently redeveloped department.

This is an exciting time to be involved in services provided from the Paediatric Emergency Department with active participation in several multi-centre clinical trials on-going. The educational program is vibrant with regular teaching in the form of small group tutorials, full session programs with invited speakers, simulation and study days within which the post holder will play a key role. We also run a Procedural Sedation service using ketamine, which has been very successful. This is offered from 0800 to 2200 on an ad hoc basis at the point of need. Training is available as required.

The post-holder will share responsibility with the existing consultant staff to:
• Provide with consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.
• Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge (as appropriate) in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
• Participate in the administration and development of acute paediatric care at West London Children sites with the Service Lead and consultant colleagues.
• Clinically supervise and train resident paediatric staff when on service.
• Participation in Clinical governance, audit, research and education within acute paediatrics.
• Share educational supervision, mentorship and induction of resident paediatric doctors.
• Offer advice to resident doctors, nurses, midwives, AHPs and referring paediatricians or primary care doctors

We are a friendly and supportive team within a trust that benefits from a wide range of coaching and leadership programs to support professional development.

We would love to meet you for an informal visit.

The Trusts provides services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 7,000 members of staff that arePROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £30 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.

Please refer to our detailed job description for more information.

The job description gives a general outline of the duties of the post and is not intended to be inflexible or a finite list of tasks. It may be varied from time to time after consultation with the post holder and in particular during regular job plan review where the strategic direction of the Trust or its constituent departments requires it
