Main Purpose of the Role
Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of something meaningful. It's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We are looking for two solicitors to join the People Team within Legal and Governance Services. The team delivers creative and customer focused legal services for the Council's people related functions. This predominantly involves legal support for social work (both children’s and adult social work services), education, housing, community safety, licensing and human resources.
We operate a career grade structure for these posts. The successful applicant will be appointed to the relevant grade (either TL10 - Solicitor or TL11 – Senior Solicitor) based on skills and experience aligned to the career grade structure.
Skills & Experience Required
You must be a qualified solicitor in Scotland, with a full, unrestricted practising certificate issued by the Law Society of Scotland.
We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest and commitment to a career in local government and in the areas of work covered by the team. You will be part of a supportive and dynamic team which is passionate about delivering high quality legal advice and support to clients.
The breadth and nature of the work is challenging and varied with no two days ever being the same. You will be playing a key role in the work the Council does to protect and support its residents. You will have compassion and empathy because a significant element of the job involves supporting the work of the Council's social work teams who work with vulnerable children and adults. Working closely with colleagues from other disciplines to safeguard our most vulnerable people is rewarding work and you will carry a varied case load where your role and contribution is valued by colleagues and the organisation.
You will have highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts and legal advice in plain English. You will be able to work collaboratively and closely with those from other disciplines such as social workers and education professionals. developing trusted, respectful relationships.
You will be professionally curious and able to think creatively to support clients. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to find solutions to problems. You will contribute to training and development for clients and have the opportunity to be creative and use technology to ensure that training and development tools are accessible and meet clients’ needs.
As the work of the team involves litigation, you must have experience of litigation and a commitment to continuing your development in this area. You will work closely with colleagues in the team to ensure that the team’s commitments are met, sharing ideas and supporting each other to achieve the best outcomes for clients. You must therefore have the skills and experience needed to work as part of a close knit, supportive team.
Interviews are likely to take place in the last two weeks of August, at the Council offices, 2 High Street, Perth, PH1 5PH.
