Accounts Assistant
Location: Cambridgeshire – In-Person
Employment Type: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. This role plays a vital part in supporting accurate and timely financial operations, maintaining compliance with UK accounting standards and statutory guidelines. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across multiple functions and communicating with internal departments and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily accounting tasks including data entry, invoice processing, and reconciliations
- Maintain precise records of financial transactions, ledgers, and expense claims in accordance with UK VAT regulations
- Assist with payroll processing and employee expense management per HMRC guidelines
- Contribute to preparation of management accounts, financial reports, and statutory filings
- Support bank reconciliations, cash flow monitoring, VAT returns, and compliance reporting
- Liaise with various departments and suppliers to address and resolve financial queries
- Reconcile store documents and verify expense and bank transactions
- Assess and report on operational cash handling and card payment practices
- Prepare discrepancy reports for management review
- Process and manage sales invoices; assist with credit control and debt collection
- Handle purchase invoices and ensure timely payments to vendors
- Provide administrative assistance to finance and management teams as required
Candidate Profile
We're looking for someone who demonstrates:
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Familiarity with UK VAT and HMRC compliance requirements
- Experience with financial software and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Excellent communication skills when liaising across departments
- Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities
- Integrity in handling confidential financial information
