Essential Requirements, Valid Current Driving Licence, Qualifications - Must have or be working to the following certificates; BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations 16th Edition, NRSWA, IPAF VM26M, G39 Level 2, Category C1, Minimum 2 years’ experience in an engineering / street lighting environment

The Role:

We are seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Electrician to work within our Highways Operations team.


You will work with a small operational team, leading Lamp Attendants, Highway Operatives, Agency workers and Apprentices on site, to install, maintain, upgrade and repair the street lighting network across the borough. This includes lamp columns, lanterns, signs, bollards, Christmas decorations, cables and infrastructure. Fault finding and repair of local authority cables will be a major part of the role.

The role requires working outside of normal office hours, supporting Standby/Call out rotas and may include evening and weekend working, to meet the needs of the service.

About You:

You will be a qualified Electrician, expected to carry out physical aspects of the job such as lifting / carrying / digging and must be able to work at heights up to 12 metres. Have an understanding of the various types of plant and machinery required to undertake operational tasks and have the skills necessary to use them.


You will be required to undertake work in a safe manner, be confident in following instructions and interpret information such as service and engineering drawings.


The role will involve paperwork so you will be required to complete any essential paperwork, have sound practical knowledge of electrical-based Health & Safety legislation & guidelines. It would be desirable to have MEWP certification or willing to work towards gaining.
