Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £44,236 FTE per annum
Annual Leave: 31 days per annum (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)
As our Head of Business Development, you will lead, manage, and continuously develop the Business development team, ensuring that employer relationships are effectively cultivated, maintained, and leveraged to deliver income targets, work placements, and industry partnerships.
The post holder will act as the voice of your team and employers within the college, ensuring that robust and varied employer partnerships influence curriculum design, work placement opportunities, and strategic decision-making via high profile events and roundtables.

Responsibilities of our Head of Business Development:
Team leadership – line management of experienced and passionate senior BDMs and a Team leader, cultivating a high-performance culture across c.12 employees within the team
Driving revenue growth – Lead the team to achieve ambitious income and growth targets across apprenticeships, adult skills, and project funding while continually improving employer services.
Strategic Employer Engagement – Develop and maintain strong, long-term partnerships with employers, ensuring their needs shape our apprenticeship and training programs.
Apprenticeship & Curriculum Alignment – Work closely with the apprenticeship delivery teams to drive recruitment, employer engagement, and quality service delivery.
Marketing & Events – Collaborate with the marketing team to develop targeted employer engagement campaigns, increasing awareness of apprenticeship and training opportunities. Support the planning and execution of large-scale employer events.
Work Placement Development – Expand and support work placement opportunities, with a specific focus on T-Levels, apprenticeships, and HE work placements, for c.1000 learners
Industry Co-Design & Delivery – Engage employers in curriculum development to ensure training programs are aligned with workforce needs.
Commercial & Project Funding Leadership – Identify and develop new revenue streams, including apprenticeships, higher technical qualifications, and adult learning programs.
Continuous Improvement – Deliver excellence in employer and learner experiences, ensuring recruitment, retention, and achievement targets are met.
Stakeholder Reporting & Leadership – Provide regular updates on business development progress to the Executive Team, Senior Leadership, and Standards Committee as needed
Employer Feedback & Action Planning – Champion the employer voice by gathering feedback and implementing action plans to enhance their experience and local priorities
What we’re looking for in our Head of Business Development:
A degree or equivalent professional qualification (or willingness to work towards).
Demonstrable experience in employer engagement, business development, and/or skills training sectors, we would equally accept demonstrable experience in or similar/relatable fields
Ability to drive collaboration across apprenticeship delivery teams, marketing, and curriculum areas to achieve growth and quality targets.
Relationship building skills, with the ability to attract and retain mutually beneficial commercial partnerships.
Leadership and management skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders internally and externally.
Commitment to continuous personal and professional development
