The Independent Review Officers’ (IRO) service is set within the framework of the updated IRO Handbook, linked to revised Care Planning Regulations and Guidance which were introduced in April 2011; The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011, The Fostering Services: National Minimum Standards 2011 and The Children Act 1989. Responsibility of the IRO has changed from the management of the Review process to a wider overview of the case including regular monitoring and follow-up between Reviews. The IRO has a key role in relation to the improvement of care planning for children Looked After and for challenging drift and delay. The purpose of the post is as follows: To Chair Reviews of Looked After Children and Child Protection Conferences as required in statute. To be jointly responsible for the maintenance of a system to ensure that reviews of Looked After Children and Child Protection Conferences are completed within statutory timescales and to high standards. To contribute to the development and quality assurance of service standards in the field of Looked After Children and children subject to Child Protection Plans which demonstrates impact and outcomes for children and young people.

Essential Requirements:
Degree/Masters in Social Work and SWE registration.
2+ years of post-qualification experience.
Strong knowledge of UK social care legislation and practice.
