About the team:
The Campus & Estates Services team at SRUC play a vital role in ensuring that the built environment for learning, teaching and working is fit for purpose and supports strategic aims. There is a strong involvement in co-ordinating and supporting the business on all aspects of Health & Safety at an operational level including establishing, managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with health & safety are adhered to.
About the opportunity:
In this role, your main objective is to work with the Lead Business Partner and colleagues, to ensure that SRUC promotes a positive health & safety culture.
You will support effective policies and procedures which enhance standards of health & safety across SRUC - ensuring that all health & safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated thus ensuring that SRUC is kept compliant with changes in legislation, best practice and procedures.
You will be required to:
- Provide a comprehensive expert professional and support service.
- Work as part of the Campus and Estates Services team formulating and maintaining SRUC’s health & safety plans, policies, arrangements & procedures.
- Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported, documented and investigated in accordance with SRUC’s policies with recommended improvements implemented.
- Establish procedures associated with health & safety training needs, including records of training undertaken.
- Plan practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial of promoting HS working practices.
- Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
- Promote and develop the competence of SRUC managers to ensure legal compliance is achieved and where possible, exceeded.
- Project manage initiatives across Health & Wellbeing.
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
- To support programmes for monitoring, auditing and performance measurement sufficient to demonstrate that safety arrangements are appropriate, robust & compliant.
- Lead/coordinate in house training with managers and employees in relation to Health and Safety.
- Undertake duties commensurate with the post-holders level of training and experience and conducive to fulfilment of the job purpose as outlined above.
Minimum qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be qualified to at least SQCF level 6 (e.g. Higher or A-Level qualifications) in a relevant area or possess relevant professional experience. You should also possess a professional qualification in a related discipline, e.g. NEBOSH Diploma
Experience and knowledge required:
- Significant experience of Health & Safety practices & legislation.
- Track record of developing and implementing health & safety improvements.
- Experience of managing health, safety & environment systems.
- Experience of producing high quality reports and correspondence, and giving clear oral reports/presentations.
- Significant knowledge of Health & Safety practices & legislation.
- Full clean driving license as travel to remote areas not covered by public transport may be required in this role.
