Are you passionate about brining empty homes back to life and helping tackle Scotland’s housing emergency? Do you want to work for Scotland’s largest social landlord and make a real difference in communities?

We’re looking for a proactive, self-motivated, Empty Homes Officer, to join the housing strategy team, to help bring empty homes back into use – providing much needed housing in North Lanarkshire.

Based within the Civic Centre, Motherwell, this is a key role in implementing our empty homes strategy and supporting national efforts to make best use of existing homes in meeting housing needs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and investigating empty properties
  • Engaging with property owners, landlords and developers
  • Developing and implementing our Empty Homes Strategy
  • Offering advice and support to bring empty homes back into use
  • Collecting data and reporting on progress made towards reducing empty homes
  • Working with other council services, wider stakeholders and partners to increase awareness of empty homes support
  • Identifying and implementing new approaches to tackling empty homes
  • Working with Scotland’s Empty Homes Partnership to build a better understanding of empty homes issues across Scotland and to innovate and collaborate on any potential new solutions that can be implemented locally

You will be an excellent communicator and collaborator, with a problem-solving mindset, with experience in housing, or a related field, and have the ability to manage casework and maintain accurate records. Sound knowledge of relevant housing policy and legislation is required, along with being able to manage your workload independently, which may involve multiple priorities whilst being able to meet deadlines.

We offer the chance to make a real difference to people’s lives, by helping increase the supply of available homes, that provides the strong foundations for every other aspect of life. Benefits of working with the council include a generous annual leave entitlement, family friendly policies and a career average earnings pension scheme. Other advantages include a wide range of training and development opportunities and the chance to be involved in wider housing initiatives as part of the wider Local Housing Strategy.

This role operates on a hybrid basis with a combination of home working, office attendance within Civic Centre, Motherwell and site visits/meetings. The pattern is currently: Wed/Thurs/Fri/Mon/Tues – in office, then the following alternate week working from home.

Driving licence/able to travel throughout North Lanarkshire is essential.

Work pattern:

35 hours per week - Monday to Thursday - 08:45 to 16:45 - Friday 08:45 to 16:15.
