The role:

Under the general direction of the Regional Enforcement Manager, you will lead and support intelligence-led investigations into fraudulent and malicious trade practices, contribute to the improvement of enforcement systems and procedures, particularly those relating to intelligence management and evolving legislation, and assist in educating the public, advising traders, and training enforcement officers and partner agencies.



Key responsibilities:

Support the enforcement of Trading Standards legislation by tackling fraudulent and malicious practices causing significant consumer harm or unfair competition across partner authorities — including response outside normal working hours when required.
Conduct investigations as directed: take statements, gather evidence, manage exhibits, compile reports, make recommendations, and present evidence in both criminal and civil courts — including executing warrants in line with legal procedures.
Provide specialist advice and information for use within the Unit and to partner services as needed
Build strong working relationships with local Trading Standards teams, Police, and other regional and national enforcement agencies to ensure effective cross-border enforcement
Stay up to date with relevant consumer and trading standards legislation and internal procedures, and take part in training as required
Keep detailed records, supply relevant data and intelligence, and ensure information-sharing complies with data protection and legal requirements
Maintain the integrity and security of IT systems used to deliver the Unit’s cross-border functions
Develop and present educational materials to promote the work and policies of the Unit and its partners
Supervise staff during investigations in line with legal protocols and good practice
Support staff training and development, including involvement in induction programmes and work placements



What the client is looking for:

Holds relevant criminal and civil investigation qualifications and practical expertise
Extensive experience in both criminal and civil investigations, including interviews, evidence collection, and report compilation
Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders across sectors
Skilled in conducting interviews under PACE and producing legally sound witness statements
Strong oral and written communication skills
Adept at interpreting and applying legislation related to intelligence and information management
Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities, with a track record of making evidence-based recommendations
Proficient IT Skills including Microsoft Office
Experienced in handling sensitive situations with empathy, including both consumer and business victims
Collaborative team player committed to continuous improvement and shared success
Full, clean UK driving licence
Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and deliver on performance targets
Skilled at managing complex customer issues and responding to competing internal and external demands
