Summary


Are you an experienced midwife with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional care in a private maternity setting? We’re seeking a Senior Midwife – Shift Coordinator to join our team in the Kensington Wing, the private maternity unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

As a key senior clinical member of the team, you’ll take charge of day-to-day operations and lead shifts, acting as the main point of contact for staff, consultants, and patients. Your clinical expertise and leadership will be essential in ensuring the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of high-quality care around the clock.

• Lead and coordinate daily operations within the Kensington Wing
• Act as the shift leader and key liaison for staff, consultants, patients, and families
• Support and inspire the team to provide personalised, evidence-based maternity care
• Ensure an outstanding client experience aligned with private healthcare expectations
• Maintain strong communication and organisation with our private obstetric consultants
• Understand and reflect the financial context of working in a private maternity service
• Line manage Band 5 and 6 midwives and Maternity Support Workers (MSWs)
• Contribute to recruitment, audits, complaint resolution, and governance processes

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable and essential senior clinical member of the team, responsible for the day to day co-ordination and leading shifts of the Kensington Wing, acting as the key point of contact for staff, members of the multidisciplinary team and patients.They will bring significant clinical experience and expertise to ensure the 24 hour provision of high-quality, safe, effective and compassionate care.

The post holder must have a clear understanding of working within a private healthcare setting, including the expectations of clients (patients, relatives, and consultants), and the importance of providing a personalised, customer-focused experience. They must also recognise the financial implications of their work, appreciating that delivering high-quality care in a private setting is directly linked to generating income and sustaining the service.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering and supporting the team to provide an exemplary service that promotes evidence-based care and advice to all women and birthing people, as well as their families. They will assess and deliver maternity care tailored to individual needs within the appropriate clinical pathways and maintain excellent communication and organisation with link consultants.

As part of their leadership responsibilities, the post holder will line manage Band 5 and 6 midwives, as well as MSW’s. They may also play an active role in recruitment, audits, complaint handling, and governance assurance.


Key responsibilities

· Continuing responsibility for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in the Intrapartum period and effective triaging

· Be an innovative practitioner and an effective change agent promoting evidence based practice.

· Act as a clinical lead and role model within Kensington Wing and provide expert clinical midwifery care whilst working within the multidisciplinary team.

· Lead on standard setting and audit to implement change that meets patient requirements and improves standards.

· Facilitate the clinical and professional development of the staff across the service.

· Ensure the efficient running of the service.

· Work unsocial and night duties as part of the midwifery team as required.

· Develop and maintain specialist, multidisciplinary, multi-agency services for women and their families.

· Ensure that care provided is within the philosophy of our Private Maternity Service.

· Be aware and identify concerns relating to safeguarding children. Liaising with the named midwife for safeguarding and the multidisciplinary team of the trust.

· Awareness of financial implication of services offered to clients in a private maternity setting and expectations of private clients.
