Join Our Outstanding Team as a Residential Child Care Worker

Grade 5 | £31,022–£33,699 per annum + 10% shift allowance
Permanent | Full-time | 8-week rota including evenings, weekends & sleep-ins (£40.78 per sleep-in)

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people? If you're passionate, resilient, and committed to helping others thrive, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

At Together for Children Sunderland, we’re proud to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted—not just once, but twice (2021 and 2025). This reflects the dedication of our talented and well-supported team, and now we’re looking for more exceptional people to join us.

What’s it like working in our homes?

Our children’s homes are warm, welcoming, and full of life. They’re places where children feel safe, supported, and valued—just like any family home. Picture movie nights in the lounge, chats over tea in the kitchen, and time spent outdoors in the garden. Every child has their own bedroom to personalise, and staff on sleep-in duty have their own private space too.

About the Role

As a Residential Child Care Worker, you’ll be part of a close-knit team providing care, guidance, and emotional support to children and young people. You’ll help create a stable, nurturing environment where they can grow, learn, and achieve their potential.

We’re looking for individuals who are:
Enthusiastic, compassionate, and resilient
Experienced in working with children and young people
Eager to develop through ongoing training and professional development

Nearly 40 per cent of foster carers combine fostering with other work. Those who do say that a supportive employer can make all the difference, enabling them to balance employment with caring for children.

Together for Children have a fostering friendly People policy for all foster carers in their employment (regardless of their fostering service). This includes offering foster carers flexible working and paid time off for training and settling a new child into their home.

As a Fostering Friendly employer, Together for Children also help promote Foster Care Fortnight™, our annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering and encourage people to consider becoming foster carers and offer children the care they need - Foster with North East - Foster with North East
