Summary
Thank you for taking the time to read about this new opportunity with Pipe Ten based in the heart of Sheffield at the quirky area that is Kelham Island!
Have you heard of Pipe Ten? If you haven’t, please do read on as this might just be the role for you.
Are you a tech lover who is constantly curious about all things tech, wanting to learn, experimenting?
If you asked the people that know you, are you the ‘go-to’ friend when they have a tech question?
When you look back over your hobbies and how you’ve spent your spare time, has a lot of it been spent creating and building your own networks, games, computers or something else within the tech space?
Are you looking to be part of a small but perfectly formed team that have been in business for over 20 years?
If you’re reading this and thinking “yes, that’s me!” Then keep reading, this could be the perfect role for you.
Who are Pipe Ten?
Pipe Ten are specialists in secure, high-performance web application delivery. In business for over 20 years, they work with clients in fintech, edtech, and other high-assurance sectors to ensure their applications are fast, available, secure, and efficient.
They’re a small but mighty team of 8, based in Sheffield but delivering globally.
What sets them apart? People tend to stick around - the shortest-serving member of the Pipe Ten team has been there for three years, and they’re proud of the collaborative, supportive culture they've built!
Pipe Ten fosters a culture of continuous learning, where team members are encouraged to grow their skills, explore new technologies, and take ownership of delivering high-quality results.
With a focus on agility, collaboration, and continuous improvement, the team works together to adapt quickly, share knowledge, and evolve with the ever-changing tech landscape.
What might a typical week look like?
As part of a close-knit team, your week will be varied and hands-on with a mix of new projects and exciting technologies and also the more repetitive elements of a role such as this!
We’re open to the level of experience our new recruit may already have, therefore this week’s mix could be tweaked slightly over time as you onboard and develop.
Some of the things you might get up to include:
Morning check-ins with the team to review system dashboards and find out the day’s priorities.
Monitoring and maintaining cloud infrastructure in AWS, Azure and other platforms, to ensure performance and security.
Maintaining system and software patching across Linux and Windows environments. Working with tools like Terraform and Ansible to automate deployments and manage infrastructure.
Deploying and caring for physical hardware within Data Centre environments
Responding to support tickets and troubleshooting infrastructure or application issues.
Participating in security hardening, vulnerability assessments, and incident response.
Documenting workflows and contributing to internal knowledge sharing.
Exploring new technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines as part of your personal development.
Who might be an ideal candidate?
We’re open to hearing from candidates with a range of backgrounds!
You might be:
A recent graduate with a passion for cloud computing and automation. You may have had a placement year in industry in a connected field or you may just always have been that person with a side IT project on the go
Someone already working within IT or within a role where they’ve been gifted the role of looking after IT (as often happens in an SME) with basic experience in Azure, AWS, or infrastructure-as-code tools.
A tech-savvy problem solver who’s eager to learn and grow in a collaborative environment, maybe you’re working as a Technical Assistant, an IT Support Technician or maybe a junior engineer
Interested in security, scripting, and DevOps practices!
What’s essential is your enthusiasm for technology, attention to detail, and willingness to get stuck in.
If you’re reading this thinking, is this the job for me? Do I want to be part of Pipe Ten’s next 20 years? Please do apply. We would rather chat with you and find out it’s not the right fit, than you not apply and then you always wonder ... what if?!
