Pay rate: £25.25 per hour PAYE
A Standard DBS is required for this role.
The role:
There is an exciting and varied program of works, at various locations across Darlington, which includes new build housing sites, Town Centre shop front refurbishments and various works to existing buildings.
You will oversee the construction projects from initiation to completion ensuring that projects are delivered safely, within budget and to agreed timescales.
You will be primarily based at one depot, however, will be working at times from various site locations.
Key responsibilities:
Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective delivery, planning, programming, and organisation of assigned building construction projects. Prepare and monitor project programmes, set milestones, and report progress regularly. Ensure all work is delivered within tender guidelines and that projects achieve an appropriate return
Contribute to the adaptation, development, and design of land, buildings, and other relevant projects. Provide technical advice to support the preparation of tenders and guidance on performance targets
Oversee financial control of assigned projects, ensuring expenditure remains within budget and meets income targets. Efficiently coordinate and manage resources including labour, materials, contractors, and plant to optimise utilisation
Promote a high standard of health and safety, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, CDM regulations, risk assessments, and safe working practices. Uphold corporate policies, including those relating to ISO 9001/14001 and relevant Council procedures
Lead and manage a team, ensuring roles are clear, staff are appropriately trained, and performance is monitored via the PDR process. Coordinate Site Supervisors and monitor progress against objectives, maintaining effective team communication
Support the development and review of Service and Business Plans, ensuring the implementation of systems and procedures to meet objectives and performance indicators
What the client is looking for:
Recognised qualification in Building, Construction or Management
NEBOSH National Certification in Construction Health and Safety
SMSTS for the Building and Civil Engineering Industries
5 years' experience in a construction or building environment
Solid understanding of construction and contract project management
Strong working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation
Familiar with relevant building/construction regulations and legal requirements
Proven experience in managing staff, including performance management and resource planning
Skilled in interpreting legislation and policy to provide sound advice and guidance
Track record of leading on strategy, policy development and implementation
Capable of managing project programmes and meeting tight deadlines
Commercially aware; able to monitor contract finances and maintain profitability
Effective at allocating labour based on project priorities
Highly organised, able to juggle multiple projects under pressure
Competent in collecting and managing project performance data (e.g. profit, productivity, H&S)
Able to monitor staff productivity and take corrective action where needed
Strong written and verbal communicator, confident across varied audiences
Skilled in simplifying complex technical content for non-specialist stakeholders
Proactive decision-maker, confident operating beyond standard procedures
Willing and able to challenge decisions to ensure robust processes
Quick to identify and flag potential issues or risks
IT literate – proficient in MS Word, Excel and standard office software
