You will be part of our core ‘storytelling team’, instrumental in sharing stories about nature, climate, people and place, as well as raising awareness of our statutory purposes:
- Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park
- Promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities by the public.
You will be communicating with engaged stakeholders as well as helping us reach new audiences and educate people about the complex landscape of the Lake District, its communities, habitats, heritage and how the Authority operates.

The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We encourage people to protect, connect and grow as well as supporting those who live and work here. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and ecologists.

The Communications team are a friendly, collaborative and approachable team. We are based in Kendal for a minimum of two days a week and time in the Park as required. The team works together flexibly, supporting one another with varying workloads and sharing progress on key objectives.
We operate a hybrid way of working combining working from home and days at our office base at Wayfaring House, Kendal. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely.
The role
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
• To create and curate content for our social media channels, digital screens, website and emails to engage our online communities and contribute towards a positive profile of the organisation
• To work with the PR and Digital Media Officer to create, coordinate and deliver content for internal communications channels
• To support the communications team with PR and media liaison
• To support colleagues in any communications enquiry, including social media, online, email or media relations
• To create monthly and quarterly PR, digital and social media reports using analytical tools.
• To support with communications administration tasks.
About you
This opportunity would suit someone has a keen sense for storytelling and ability to deliver content which inspires and connects. You will be an organised and reliable member of the team, promoting our own and third party content, with a desire to learn about the Lake District and the National Park Authority’s role. We are looking for a candidate with an awareness of what makes a story ‘newsworthy’, works collaboratively and is adept at working to tight deadlines.
