Your New Job

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with complex needs in a classroom setting. Working closely with class teachers, therapists, and medical staff, you will help deliver personalised learning programmes, support physical and emotional development, and assist with personal care routines. This is a full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, and complex medical needs
  • Using Makaton, PECS, or other communication aids (training provided if needed)
  • Assisting with feeding, toileting, and mobility
  • Creating a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment
  • Promoting independence, engagement, and emotional wellbeing

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, ideally PMLD or SLD
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach
  • Willingness to support with personal care and medical routines
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Hays)
