Leighton is a happy chatty, full of energy, young man who is nearly 11years old who lives with his mum and pets in Westerhope, he has a cat and a dog who he loves to engage with and takes great pride in helping mum out at feeding time. Leighton has a rare genetic syndrome called Pura 5Q31.1, this is a genetic condition that can cause medical issues and delays in development and learning, this has caused Leighton to also have heart valve complications, in the form of a tear in one of his valves, this is monitored by supervision of his activity levels and changes to his overall appearance, as physical signs will present if there is an issue.

Individuals with PURA express their feelings with sounds, and movements and Leighton classically expresses himself using movement and is very verbal. Leighton also manages a condition called Microcephaly causing neurological learning difficulties.

We are seeking an experienced individual with background experience in supporting individuals with learning difficulties and challenging behaviours. The behaviours usually present when Leighton becomes dysregulated or does not want to end an activity he is enjoying, as Leighton’s PA you must be able to demonstrate and explain the methods you would utilise to bring Leighton back to a regulated state and keep him safe.

Leighton loves technology especially “Super Mario” and will happily engage in spending his free time on his iPad gaming, he is a bit of a thrill seeker to and would love to have a PA that can support and accompany him to local parks, and day trips to Theme parks, Leighton loves to be outdoors and particularly enjoys going to the local train station to watch the trains, he also enjoys a McDonalds on occasion, so that may be on the agenda with Leighton, Leighton can be a fight or flight risk so vigilance is key to this role, as he can run if faced with something outside of his normal routines.

Leighton is looking for someone who has the same energy as him who can support and encourage his independence to access the community and enjoy the activities of his choice.

A car driver is essential for this role and a good level of fitness is required.
