Royal Free World Class Values: The post holder will offer World Class Care to service users, staff, colleagues, clients and patients alike. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.To demonstrate specialist clinical expertise in the assessment, differentialdiagnosis, treatment and management of language, communication andswallow problems in adults with acquired disorders, providing appropriateintervention and evaluating outcomes. To include patients withtracheostomies and who are ventilator dependant. 2.To demonstrate specialist knowledge in this clinical area underpinned bycurrent evidence-based practice and outcome measures. 3.To demonstrate highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in theassessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. 4.To make appropriate differential diagnoses and specialist clinical decisions based on evidence from assessment of complex cases, seeking advice as appropriate. 5.To develop knowledge and skills within each specialty, consulting withclinical supervisor as appropriate. 6.To apply specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements/decision making for case management, developing clear care plans based on best practice. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS 1.To have due regard for personal safety and that of patients/carers, adhering to moving and handling regulations, restraining policies and ensuring the safe positioning of self and others. 2,To demonstrate skills in handling patients with disabilities 3.To maintain intense concentration in all aspects of patient management for prolonged periods. In particular, to monitor auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of patients communication, adapting and facilitating according to perceived patient needs 4.To be flexible to the demands of the environment including unpredictable work patterns, deadlines and frequent interruptions. LIAISON/TEAMWORK 1.To contribute to the function of clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary by discussing own and others input around patients needs, ensuring a well-co-ordinated care plan. 2.To liaise and share information with health staff as appropriate, observing data protection guidelines. 3.To contribute to case conferences and multi-agency team meetings and policy development as appropriate e.g. social services and the voluntary sector. STAFF SUPPORT 1.To supervise the work of junior SLT colleagues, assistants and volunteers, and to provide support as required. 2.To provide line management to junior therapists from other disciplines. 3.To provide emotional support for students, volunteers, and more junior speech and language therapists when distressing circumstances arise. **For further information please refer to the attached JD/PS**
