Summary

The Information Security Team (IST) plays a critical role in enabling the Commander of UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom) to identify and counter security threats within the Information Domain, as well as to implement and direct appropriate risk mitigation measures.

The mission of the IST is to:

Provide governance across the Information Domain.
Oversee the implementation of information security countermeasures and technical security activities across the Top-Level Budget (TLB).
Advise commanders on the application of information security countermeasures.
Liaise with other organisations involved in information security.

The IST is structured to support the Senior Security Risk Owner (SSRO), through the Senior Security Risk Coordinator (SSRC), by enabling the identification and mitigation of cross-TLB security threats within the Information Domain.

Within the Principal Security Adviser (PSyA) team, the IST is responsible for the governance, risk management, and assurance of security measures as outlined in security policy.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Information Security and/or Information Assurance (IS/IA).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include:

Representing UKStratCom’s interests in all Information Security (InfoSy) and Information Assurance (IA) activities within the Top-Level Budget (TLB).
Consulting with High-Level Budgets (HLBs), Business Units (BUs), and Agencies as required, to provide IS/IA security guidance to subordinate headquarters, units, and establishments across the TLB.
Providing specialist management support, advice, and oversight to UKStratCom Information Technology Security Officers (ITSOs) and Document Security Officers across the Command.
Supporting the Warning, Advice, and Reporting Point (WARP) by addressing Information Security incidents, coordinating write-off authority, and managing case closure for InfoSy and STRAP cases.
Collating information on threats and risk data.
Ensuring that Sensitive Post Checks are conducted to support Special Access Programme (SAP) control measures.
Providing staff support to the Command STRAP Security Officer (STRAPSO) and the InfoSy-STRAP SO2.
Processing applications for visits to overseas locations by UKStratCom staff with STRAP or SAP clearances.

Additional Notes:

While this position does not include line management responsibilities, the role holder will provide specialist management support, advice, and oversight to organisationally subordinate UKStratCom ITSOs and Document Security Officers.
The role may require occasional travel within the UK to attend meetings, conduct liaison, or visit units, on an as-needed basis.
