Software Engineers

  • Do you believe that community pharmacy has a vital role to play at the heart of the NHS?
  • Do you want to join a team dedicated to providing thousands of bricks and mortar pharmacies with the digital tools necessary to compete with online only alternatives?
  • Are you Java or C# programmer with commercial experience of building high-volume, high-performance, high-availability applications and platforms?

If so this could be the opportunity you have been looking for. This is a great time to join us and to make your mark with a new and expanding team.

The PHOENIX Group is a pan-European pharmaceutical wholesaling and retailing company - one of the top 5 pharmaceutical wholesalers in the world. It operates exclusively in Europe with its UK headquarters based in Runcorn, Cheshire, from where they support the local business activities across a UK network of 14 distribution depots, over 500 retail community pharmacies, over 4,000 pharmacy members and over 6,000 staff nationwide.

Phoenix Medical Supplies Limited is undergoing major strategic change as it re positions itself in the market place. The Digital Program is a pivotal part of the future strategy as we look to further build the link between digital and community pharmacy, enabling our customers to enjoy the convenience of online with the personal service that is provided through our pharmacy and member network.

To support this strategy we have recently acquired a leading digital prescription platform. It is already a great product that customers love, you only have to look at their app ratings and customer comments to see that it is a quality product. In the short term we are fine tuning the app to best benefit our members. The longer term vision is to evolve the product from a prescription app into a pharmacy app and then into a health app centered on pharmacy.

We already have a great product team and are currently looking to add software engineers. The team has a strong focus on quality and works as an integrated, multi-disciplinary agile team. You’d be working alongside product managers, researchers and designers and would be expected to use modern engineering practices like TDD, pair programming and CI/CD.

This is a hands on role so you can expect to be involved in a wide range of activities from writing code as an experienced member of a delivery team to building platforms, contributing to architectural decisions and supporting continual improvement of our practices and standards. Strong interpersonal skills will be required as you’ll be expected to coach other engineers and regularly engage with non-technical people at all levels of seniority.

Ideally you will have a combination of skills relating to any of the following:

  • Java / React
  • Springboot framework
  • C# & .Net Framework
  • AWS
  • CI/CD tooling & practices

Whilst a combination of these skills would be ideal, if you have experience in any of the above we would really encourage you to apply.

The role is full time and ideally you would be based at our UK Headquarters, Runcorn. However we do work flexibly and support working from home for much of the time. If you apply we will talk to you about what that means and take time to understand your circumstances.

We offer a competitive package and if this sounds like an exciting opportunity we would encourage you to apply.

Our Digital journey is just starting and we’d like you to be a part of it.
