We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Fencing Operative to join our team based in Darlington. This is a full-time, permanent position with a respected employer offering steady hours, a supportive team environment, and a competitive hourly rate.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Fencing Operative, you will play a crucial role in the safe and efficient installation of timber fencing. Your duties will cover all stages of fence construction—from dismantling old structures to completing new installations. Responsibilities include removing old fences and clearing surrounding vegetation, using plans and instructions to mark out and measure fence lines, and excavating postholes manually or with powered tools. You will install concrete or timber posts, ensuring accurate alignment using spirit levels or plumb bobs, and then mix and pour concrete to secure the posts.
Further tasks involve cutting timber rails to size and securing them to the posts, attaching fence palings and wire to complete the structure, and communicating with customers to respond to support requests when needed. You'll also be responsible for maintaining tools and vehicles, adhering to Mitie's safety protocols, and keeping accurate records of your completed work. This includes using smartphone technology to upload photos of completed installations and logging your daily progress.
What We're Looking For:
We prefer candidates with previous experience in fencing, groundworks, or similar outdoor trades. You should be comfortable working in all weather conditions and have good attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions and technical drawings. Confidence in using small machinery and hand tools is important—though training will be provided if needed. Basic digital skills are necessary for uploading photos and work records via smartphone. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
If you're practical, reliable, and looking for a hands-on role with long-term stability, we'd love to hear from you. Apply now and help us build secure, quality fencing solutions across Darlington
