The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a fixed term (12 months) locally employed dental core trainee equivalent who will be predominantly based at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford, with responsibilities across both hospitals’ sites.
The appointee will work in the Oral & Maxillofacial department participating in on-call rota, inpatient ward rounds as well as attending clinics and theatres as per timetable. There will be opportunity to develop experience in management of acute OMFS emergencies, inpatient ward skills as well as management of general OMFS presentations in clinic. Additionally, there will be excellent exposure to procedures to improve oral surgical and skin soft tissue skills both under local and general anaesthetic.Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.

Clinical
• To be responsible for the continuing care of patients as designated by consultant staff.
• Part of team performing dailly ward rounds to ensure regular review of in-patients.
• To participate in a 1 in 5 DCT On-call rota responding to calls for advice and as well as assessment and management of patients as appropriate
• To participate in clinics including general OMFS clinics, local anaesthetic minor oral surgery and other specialist clinics if appropriate
• Attend regular theatre under supervision as per timetable to gain surgical exposure and develop surgical skills where appropriate.
• To participate in meaningful audit within the department.
• To participate in the training of junior medical staff and other staff.
• To deputise for colleagues at an appropriate level.
• To carry out appropriate administrative duties in support of clinical commitments.
• In certain cases, changes to the published job plan may be necessary to facilitate patient care and safety. There changes should only be temporary in nature eg: cover for another similar grade colleague whilst on leave.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust’s catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. The main towns include: Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys) – all beautiful and unique.
Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located 20 minutes’ drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the Max-fax Tier 1 full-shift rota. The rota is compliant with the terms and conditions of the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and WTD and has been carefully designed to maximise training opportunities for doctors whilst maintaining a safe and efficient service, with an even spread of long days and nights. The post holder will be 1 of the 5 doctors contributing to the full shift rota with a weekend frequency of [1] with [1]-night shifts across a [5]-week reference period and is prospectively covered for annual and study leave.
