Job Purpose
To support children and young people with special needs in leisure activities, encouraging socialisation in a safe, fun and stimulating environment.
Relevant experience is preferred, but a friendly, outgoing manner and a good communicator with a good sense of humour, a sense of fun and a willingness to learn from children, young people and staff or volunteers alike is key.
Full training will be given including shadow shifts before taking responsibility for supporting children or young people.
Hours and Places of Work
This role can be flexible or fixed depending on your individual situation.
Our core hours of work are between 2.45pm and 5.45pm during term time, with the addition of extra hours 6.15pm to 8.45pm 3 evenings per week. Occasional weekend work (Saturdays or Sundays) also available.
During school holidays we run longer sessions of around 6 hours per day.
We are looking for Team workers who could commit to working between 6 and 25 hours per week on average.
Services run from two locations within the Inverness area
In return we offer a broad range of training, staff supervisions and a fun, supportive and nurturing place in which to work.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be interested in working with children/young people and be mobile and physically fit.
Must be a fluent communicator with children/young people.
Must have/be willing to undertake an SVQ 3 in Playwork, Care Learning and
Development or a related qualification, e.g. HNC in Social Care.
Two references, PVG Disclosure Check and declaration of medical fitness must be in place before taking up the post.
Responsibilities
To work with people who have learning and physical disabilities and any other
additional support needs.
To support and care for our young people as required, and assist in activities.
Personal care, feeding, lifting and moving are all requirement of the job
To be willing to function as part of a team.
To lift and move equipment as required
To assist with all preparatory work and cleaning up.
To be able and willing to plan and lead play/leisure/sports/arts/games events,
including some preparation work
To be willing to go on outings, as and when required with our young people.
To act as Escort on the minibus when required
To liaise with parents/carers, demonstrating compassion and understanding.
To attend planning, evaluation and team meetings and complete written records as required
To attend any SNAP training.
