Reporting To: The Head of Swan Youth Project
Location: The Swan Youth Centre, Berkhamsted and local area.
Hours: The role holder must be available to work Monday to Friday, covering the core hours of 3.15pm - 6.15pm when we are working directly with our young people during term time. Whilst we welcome any discussion on how you may want to flex the other 10 hours, this will be dependent on business and operational business requirements.

ABOUT THE SWAN YOUTH PROJECT
The Swan Youth Project (SYP) Limited is a Berkhamsted based registered charity which offers 11-16+ years old of Berkhamsted and the surrounding area, a safe and secure recreational facility within which they can relax and socialise away from the stresses of school or home life. To support them in this we provide a daily drop-in facility with organised activities at the centre as well as holiday programmes, workshops, music gigs and so much more.
The SYP centre is well equipped with a DJ booth, pool table, table football, Internet room, chill-out room, Wii & Xbox, coffee bar and a fully equipped band practice room. A free snack and hot drink are offered to all members (some of whom may not have eaten all day).
ABOUT THE ROLE: You will help plan, execute and engage in activities that enhance member development.
Duties will include:
1. Running daily sessions both in the centre and offsite activities / trips
2. Engage and build positive relationships with young people, responding appropriately to challenging situations
3. Support the Manager delivering projects by assisting in its planning through to implementation
4. Ability to challenge inappropriate behaviours and challenge any behaviours that compromise the safeguarding of our members
5. Run sessions in the absence of the manager and manage staff, volunteers and members during them
6. All team members take on a share of the activities required for the smooth running of the centre; i.e. running our social media channels, fundraising, timely completion of all required centre checks
ABOUT YOU:
Ideally, you will be working with as a senior youth worker already . Full training will be given to develop you on this rewarding career path. What is most important is that you;
• Bring a passion for working with young people and a genuine interest in their personal development and well-being and have experience of working with young people in a senior capacity
• Have excellent pastoral skills including active listening, empathy, and building rapport with our members
• Be flexible with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and adapt in an ever-changing environment
• Be Confident & Resilient with a positive mindset and the ability to adapt to demanding and ever-changing situations
