Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Lawyer to join our dynamic Legal & Governance Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of corporate and service strategies that align with broader organisational objectives. You will handle a varied caseload of both routine and complex legal matters with a strong emphasis on independence, accuracy, and efficiency.

Responsibilities:



Provide accurate, consistent legal advice across Council services.


Manage a caseload of routine and complex legal matters with minimal supervision.


Represent the organisation in courts and tribunals as required.


Draft and review complex legal documents and reports.


Deliver training sessions, briefings, and legal updates to colleagues and stakeholders.


Use legal research to inform strategic advice and legal positions.


Maintain high standards of client care, file management, and compliance with Lexcel and professional regulatory requirements.


Record and monitor chargeable hours (minimum 1200 p/a) or outcome-based targets.


Supervise junior legal staff as needed.


Attend external and internal meetings, including evening sessions where necessary.


Contribute to an agile, collaborative legal team focused on delivering excellent public service.




Your Experience:
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX with experience handling a wide range of legal matters relevant to local government. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a sound understanding of the wider issues affecting local authorities in diverse urban areas.

Essentials:



Qualified solicitor, barrister, or CILEX fellow (England & Wales).


Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following legal areas:Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, Employment, Housing, Licensing, Planning, Property, Contracts, Procurement, Litigation, Regeneration, Environmental, Trading Standards, and more.


Proven track record of advocacy in courts or tribunals.


Ability to manage complex legal caseloads independently.


Experience using case management systems.


Strong client care and interpersonal skills.


High attention to detail and ability to meet performance targets.


Ability to provide strategic and operational legal advice with clarity.


IT proficiency and legal research capability.
