About the role:
As our LGPS Training and Employment Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting over 18,000 scheme members and 21 participating employers within the Fund. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all stakeholders fully understand their responsibilities under the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). You will deliver high-quality training, guidance, and support to a wide audience, including the Pensions Team, Pensions and Investment Committee, Pension Board, scheme members, and
employers. This will be achieved through a variety of methods, such as formal presentations, workshops, informal sessions, and innovative online tools including webinars and training videos.
In this varied and collaborative role, you will also be responsible for onboarding new employers to the Fund, ensuring they are well-supported from the outset. You will continue to provide ongoing development and guidance to existing employers, helping them meet their legal obligations under LGPS regulations.
You’ll be joining a dedicated Pensions Team with two core functions: to apply expert knowledge of LGPS regulations to ensure pension benefits are paid accurately and on time, and to support employers in remaining compliant with their responsibilities under the scheme.
About you: -
You’re an experienced and confident trainer with a passion for helping others understand complex information. Whether delivering sessions in person or online, you know how to engage your audience and make technical content accessible and relevant. You’ll be educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience, with a natural flair for presenting and a talent for explaining detailed concepts in a clear, meaningful way.
Highly organised and adaptable, you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to take technical guidance and turn it into effective, easy-to-understand training.
Most importantly, you’ll bring a strong technical understanding of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Regulations and related legislation, enabling you to support and guide others with authority and clarity.
What you will do:
As the LGPS Training and Employment Officer at Powys County Council, you will play a key role in developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality training to a wide range of stakeholders. These include pension administrators, scheme employers, scheme members, councillors, and local pension board members. Training will be delivered both in person and
virtually.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing and producing engaging training materials in line with LGPS requirements.
• Delivering training sessions and tutorials using a variety of formats and platforms.
• Organising and managing training events and workshops.
• Collaborating with partner organisations, such as other Welsh LGPS Funds, to design and deliver joint training initiatives.
• Representing the Fund at events and meetings across the UK, occasionally outside of standard working hours.
• Acting as the main point of contact for participating employers, ensuring they are supported, trained, and kept informed of their legal responsibilities and expectations, including data exchange and contribution monitoring.
You will also be expected to:
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
• Interpret and clearly explain complex legislation to a range of audiences.
• Work independently and manage your workload with minimal supervision.
• Utilise strong IT skills to support training delivery and event coordination.
• Bring experience in developing and delivering training, ideally within a pensions or public sector environment.
This position has a requirement for a Standard DBS Check
