Western Town Farm are looking to recruit a General Farm Worker Apprentice Level 2 to join their Dairy Farm in Devon.
Duties will be varied and we are looking for applicants who have a flexible approach and would like to get involved in all aspects of work on the farm.
Your tasks would include: -
• Being part of the daily milking rota
• Involved with rearing young stock
• Assist with the grazing management
• Tractor work - scraping out, feeding up
• Fence management
• Livestock Handling and husbandry (Dairy Cows & Young Stock)
• Milking Cows
• Grassland Management – Grazing, Silage
• General Farm work and Maintenance
• Maintaining machinery, property, hedges and fences

You will be supported by an assessor throughout your apprenticeship.
As you progress through your apprenticeship your duties and responsibilities will alter as you develop the skills for a successful career in agriculture.
Training will be a mix of face to face and online learning.
You will gain a General Farm Worker Level 2 qualification with further opportunities for training, development and permanent employment upon completion.
Things to consider
Activities are carried outside and inside in all weathers.
Working hours are 40 per week and the days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between the hours of 6am and 7pm on a rota (typically 6-3 and 10-7) with 1 hour for lunch.
Driving would be an advantage but not necessary as the Farm is located on a bus route and main road.
Interviews will be held for 1 day on the farm as a Work Trial, so candidates will need to come prepared with lunch and appropriate clothing.
Future prospects
You will gain a General Farm Worker Level 2 qualification with further opportunities for training, development and permanent employment upon completion. Progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship, such as Livestock Unit Technician, and a full-time role with the farm.
