Job summary To ensure the provision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients, and to ensure effective financial control of the dispensary and dispensary stock. To promote new technologies to patients, that will improve efficiencies within the Dispensary. Key tasks: Managing the day to day running of the Dispensary and the Dispensing staff. Active patient engagement, always ensuring that patients are kept informed of any changes to the medication ordering processes within the surgery. Promotion of the NHS App and encouraging patients to sign up and order medications using the app. Active engagement with existing and future national NHS plans for sustainability, such as the promotion of electronic repeat prescribing. Attendance at, and input to, partners meetings (weekly). Attendance at, and input to, the Patient Participation Group Meetings (approx. 6 weekly). Monthly checking of the drug tariff for price and category changes, checking MIMS for new or discontinued drugs, and following up changes with drug company representatives where necessary In association with the nominated partner, maintain and update the computerised Drug Directory, adding new drugs and monitoring patient repeats. Liaise with the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) Medicines Optimisation Team, as appropriate. Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements, preparing forms and submitting prescriptions monthly to the NHS Prescription Services; preparing vaccine list; dealing with prescriptions returned by the NHS Prescription Services Create an open culture within the Dispensary, ensuring that all significant events regarding the dispensing of prescribed items are recorded and discussed. Fully participate in the significant events process, including investigation and process review to identify any training or learning needs. Ensure that Dispensary staff are always up to date with their mandatory NHS training. Ensure that Dispensary staff competencies are assessed and recorded at least annually and are revisited following any significant events. To develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all Dispensary processes, ensuring an annual documented review. Ensure Dispensary staff are working in accordance with the latest SOPs, with documented regular audits and checks to ensure quality dispensing. Participate fully in the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme, including ensuring that DRUMS and the annual audit are completed to satisfactory standards. See full description in supporting documents
