Newham Hospital Department of Anaesthetics is undergoing significant expansion, driven by the reopening of elective theatres and the new Barts Health Surgical Strategy. This strategy seeks to improve clinical outcomes through the development of a high-volume low acuity surgical hub catering for a range of specialties.


We are seeking colleagues who share our values and vision to join our team of consultants to enable this to happen. You will need to be committed and keen, able to work collaboratively with diverse groups, and to be able to show leadership and integrity. You will be expected to take a role within the managerial structure of the department, and you will demonstrate a commitment to education, supporting the resident staff in their professional development. Above all else you will be and excellent clinician who delivers great care to your patients

The very busy Obstetric unit at Newham Hospital cares for women from one of the most diverseboroughsinEngland.Annuallythereareapproximately6,500deliveries,ofwhich32% were by caesarean section. Over 96% of sections take place under regional anaesthesia. A 24houron-demandepiduralserviceisprovided.TherearetwodedicatedObstetricTheatres (24/7)locatedinthemainsitetheatresuiteimmediatelyadjacenttotheCentralDeliverySuite. The anaesthetic department provides a dedicated pre-assessment service for those booked for elective caesarean sections or complex comorbidity

From Mid 2025 there will be a weekly paediatric list supported by surgeons from the Royal London Hospital.

Additionally,theanaestheticdepartmentprovidessupporttotheEmergencyDepartmentand the paediatric ward in case of paediatric emergencies.
