We have recently had some internal movement within the Strategic Housing Services team, resulting in a vacancy for a Senior Homelessness Officer. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our vision of delivering excellent housing services across the Borough.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a real-life difference, creating sustainable homes for all, and supporting homelessness prevention within our communities.
You will thrive in utilising creativity and available resources to develop innovative and effective approaches to preventing homelessness and supporting those most at risk and in housing need.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and well-rounded candidate with a strong track record of building and maintaining effective relationships. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the Homelessness manager maintaining the service, attending meetings and directly line managing other members of the homelessness team.
Key responsibilities:
- The role will involve supporting and supervising the team of homelessness officer.
- Oversee complex homelessness cases
- Making decision under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996 (part vII)
- Assist with training and development of new staff
- Build and maintain relationships with housing providers and other agencies
About the role
As a Senior Homelessness Officer, you will lead and support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused homelessness services, ensuring compliance with housing legislation and policy. You’ll promote early prevention, drive service improvement through data-led approaches, and supervise frontline staff to meet performance goals. The role involves working collaboratively with partners, agencies, and internal teams to support complex cases, implement strategic initiatives, and enhance housing solutions. About you
You are a knowledgeable and proactive housing professional with a strong understanding of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996. With experience in casework and service delivery, you are confident managing complex cases and supporting vulnerable individuals. You’re an effective leader who can motivate and guide staff, promote a prevention-first culture, and drive service improvement through data and performance analysis. Passionate about making a difference, you work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders, apply a strengths-based approach, and are committed to delivering person-centred, solution-focused outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
