GENERAL DUTIES1. Provide a supportive role within the SACT outreach sites for nursing, medical and clerical Staff whilst providing cover between the Chemotherapy Services Units. This will include all other SACT outreach sites.2. Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs3. To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions4. To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge information5. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department6. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants acting as mentor to designated staff7. To welcome patients to the ward and its routine8. Be able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients9. To liaise with medical and non medical personnel and community organisations10. Rotate/ work on ORTC Chemotherapy unit11. To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects12. To act as support for other ward nurses in relation to chemotherapy care13. Safely escort patients to other areas and collect chemotherapy from key departments14. Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs15. Assist in the general housekeeping duties of all areas.16. Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charge17. Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels18. Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely19. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy20. Assist medical staff with procedures EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1. The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan2. To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack3. Complete Cannulation Skills Training and the UKONs Workbook4. Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, moving and handling and fire safety5. To complete level 3 chemotherapy administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatmentPERSONAL 1. Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good working relationship2. Show professional and courteous manner when answering the telephone and other enquires3. Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours4. To be aware of and adhere to all policies including; sickness and absence, confidentiality, uniform and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act5. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy6. To be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that arise7. To show respect for members of the team and endorse the SACT Services philosophy of giving mutual support
