They are currently seeking a Solicitor to join the Crime Department. You will be responsible for independently managing a caseload of criminal law matters, encompassing both publicly funded (Legal Aid) and privately funded cases. • Excellent communication skills
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team

What will your role look like?

• Manage a full caseload of criminal law matters in both the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts
• Conduct client interviews and provide legal advice, ensuring accurate and contemporaneous attendance notes
• Prepare case documents, including case summaries, instructions to counsel, applications, and court bundles
• Attend police stations (if accredited) and represent clients during interviews under caution
• Liaise effectively with courts, counsel, police, experts, and the Legal Aid Agency
• Oversee the preparation and submission of Legal Aid applications and related documentation
• Draft and manage private client retainers, cost estimates, and billing, ensuring compliance with SRA price transparency requirements
• Accurately time-record all work undertaken and meet agreed billing and performance targets
• Ensure all work complies with current regulatory standards, including the SRA Code of Conduct, Legal Aid Agency contract requirements, and the firm’s internal procedures
• Maintain high standards of file management and update the firm’s case management system accordingly
• Keep up to date with changes in criminal law and practice, undertaking relevant CPD and mandatory training as required

This is not an exhaustive list of duties. As the needs of the department evolve, you may be required to undertake additional tasks or provide support across the team as reasonably requested by your line manager or the firm’s management.
