Band 6 Physiotherapist - Static in Acute Respiratory

Physiotherapy is highly valued at Broomfield hospital with a large team of qualified staff working across the general in-patient wards. We are in need of a forward thinking qualified Physiotherapist who are keen to develop their career and clinical skills in this fast-paced, varied and stimulating setting.
This is an opportunity to increase your experience and develop some specialist knowledge as a Static post within the Critical Care and Surgical team. You will be managing a caseload within ICU and GHDU , Recovery and the Respiratory Ward, as well as General Surgical wards including Amputees, In-patients and Outpatients. Also you will be integral in contributing to service development.
1.Assesses and treats own patient caseload as an autonomous practitioner. Maintains appropriate communications and associated records working as part of the multidisciplinary team.
2. Provides high quality Physiotherapy treatment to patients with Acute Respiratory needs in the Critical Care and Surgical wards incl Amputees.
3. Demonstrates a commitment to continued development of skills and knowledge.
4. Supervises, teaches and evaluates junior staff, assistants and students.
5. May participate in departmental audit and research
Part of the MSE clinical pathway redesign , Broomfield Hospital is an innovative, dynamic environment. Our integrated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Therapy Assistant service has a high profile within the Trust.
You will have experience of working in an acute hospital and facilitating complex discharges using excellent assessment and problem solving skills. Supervision of junior staff, assistants and Physiotherapy students is also part of this role. Therapy Services is a friendly and supportive department with a strong focus on professional and personal development, and a commitment to regular clinical supervision for all staff, as well as rotational and annual appraisal.
There is a requirement for the post holder to participate in the respiratory out of hours on-call service and our weekend and BH roster. Due to developments the service will be delivered between 8am -8pm and this is will be over a rostered pattern of working.

Understands the complaints procedure and the need for reporting, and local resolution.

Balances clinical and non-clinical commitments with minimal support
Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of current issues around Physiotherapy within health and social care.
Clinical Duties
• Undertakes comprehensive/ standardised Physiotherapy assessment of needs, plans, implements and evaluates the outcome of treatment of appropriate patients.
• Demonstrates specialist clinical reasoning skills based on knowledge and experience of specialist area and reflective practice to form accurate decisions in regard to patient management.
• Jointly identifies Physiotherapy goals with the patient as part of the overall care plan, using therapeutic use of self and graded activity to achieve agreed goals.
• Demonstrates that Physiotherapy treatment is based on theoretical knowledge and that clinical reasoning skills are used to justify intervention and support own practice in some more complex situations.
• Delivers/ produces work to the established professional/directorate standards.
• Implements flexible, innovative and imaginative treatment plans.
• Manages workload and clinical time effectively, delegating work to assistants as appropriate, and seeking appropriate support.
• Undertakes moving/handling tasks that require skilled physical effort throughout the working day.
• Performs risk assessments and undertakes skilled therapeutic handling which requires strength and stamina.
• Demonstrates an understanding and aptitude towards email, word processing and Intranet/Internet.
• Initiates changes in practice, developing skills and schemes through attending short, specialist courses and self-directed CPD to diploma or equivalent specialist level.
• Participates in weekend/bank holiday duties.
• Participates in out of hours on call service assessing and treating critically ill patients. This work is unsupervised.
