Hours: 8 hours per week (flexible), up to half the hours on Mondays during school term. Some weekend availability required.
Rate: £14.04 per hour
Area: Gateshead (in my home; some remote admin possible)
About the Role
Are you a compassionate, adaptable, and reliable individual with a passion for supporting families? I am seeking a Personal Assistant for 8 hours per week to help me manage daily life as a single mother to a 6-year-old and 5-month-old twins. I have diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and fibromyalgia, which means my energy and health can fluctuate, so I need someone ready to step in and help the household run smoothly as needs arise.
Main Responsibilities:
General Housework: Tidying, folding laundry, basic cleaning, and meal preparation (including occasional batch cooking).
Routine & Organisation: Supporting daily routines, weekly planning, creating to-do lists, prioritising and initiating tasks, and breaking down tasks into manageable steps.
Admin Support: Assisting with basic admin tasks such as scheduling, forms, reminders, correspondence, appointment reminders, and collecting prescriptions/medication.
Childcare Support: Helping supervise and care for young twins and a 6-year-old, including occasional assisting with feeding, light tidying up after meals, ensuring bottles are in the dishwasher, milk powder pots are filled, and occasional nursery pick-ups.
Accompanying on Outings: Accompanying and supporting the family with outings, appointments, errands, and some weekend activities (e.g., shopping, ensuring food order is ready before Monday’s batch cooking).
Community & Social Activities: Assisting with social or community activities as needed.
Proactive Support: Proactively identifying tasks that need doing and helping implement strategies to make life easier.
Sensory & Emotional Regulation: Helping maintain a low-stress, low-sensory environment and supporting me in managing signs of overwhelm.
Key Qualities We’re Looking For:
Friendly, calm, and patient personality
Reliable and able to work independently
Good with children and comfortable in a family home environment
Flexible and responsive to changing daily needs and routines
Respectful of privacy and family boundaries
Organised, non-judgemental, and comfortable with direct communication
Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, autism, ADHD, and fibromyalgia
A driver with access to a car is a bonus but not required
Essential: Experience running a household with children
This role may suit someone with experience in childcare, family support, personal assistance, or domestic work.
Working with individuals with chronic health conditions, ADHD, autism, or neurodivergent families (preferred but not essential)
This role is funded via a personal budget and is subject to eligibility checks under Gateshead Adult Social Care guidelines. Training and ongoing support can be provided.
To Apply
Please provide a brief introduction, your relevant experience, your availability, and references if available. Email to directpayments@disabilitynorth.org.uk
A DBS check will be required.
If you are interested in making a positive difference to a family managing complex needs, I would love to hear from you.
At the time of starting their employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
