If so, we want to hear from you.About the RoleAs the Site Fire and Rescue Lead, you will be the cornerstone of fire safety and emergency preparedness at the Sizewell C construction site. Representing SZC as an intelligent customer, you will oversee the delivery of a high-performing Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) provided by a specialist subcontractor. Your leadership will ensure compliance with fire strategies, emergency plans, and contract standards across both the Main Site and Off-Site Infrastructure.This is a high-impact role requiring a blend of operational firefighting knowledge, contract management expertise, and stakeholder engagement skills. You’ll work closely with the Principal Contractor, Security Control Room, and external emergency services to ensure seamless incident response and site safety.Fire & Rescue Service OversightLead and coordinate the on-site Fire & Rescue Service (FRS), working closely with Watch Managers and the contractor delivery team to ensure operational readiness and strategic alignment.Integrate FRS operations into the broader site-wide incident and emergency response framework, ensuring seamless collaboration during emergencies and recovery phases.Contract & Performance ManagementManage the FRS contract using CEMAR software, ensuring compliance with agreed KPIs, service levels, and performance metrics.Conduct regular contract meetings to review service delivery, address issues, and drive continuous improvement.Aggregate site-wide demand to ensure the FRS is resourced and scaled appropriately as construction progresses.Strategic Representation & DirectionAct as the strategic lead for the Fire & Rescue Service within SZC, setting operational priorities and aligning service delivery with project goals.Represent FRS interests across the client organisation, ensuring visibility and integration into decision-making processes.External Liaison & IntegrationLead strategic engagement with Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service, ensuring alignment with local emergency services and mutual aid protocols.Collaborate with internal Fire Safety and Assurance teams to maintain compliance and drive best practices.Emergency Preparedness & ComplianceSupport the Emergency Preparedness Officer in developing and maintaining Off-Site Nuclear Emergency Plans.Facilitate liaison with external emergency responders to ensure SZC meets its legal obligations under nuclear safety regulations.Contribute to training and exercising programmes, ensuring preparedness across all emergency scenarios.Contractor IntegrationServe as the primary point of contact for SZC Contractor Partners regarding fire safety and emergency planning.Assist contractors in aligning their operations with SZC’s Emergency Plan and Fire arrangements.Training & ExercisesPlan and implement site-wide training exercises, ensuring integration across all teams and capturing lessons learned.Monitor contractor-led training activities, ensuring they meet SZC standards and contribute to overall site readiness.Site Development & Design InputSupport the development of the construction site plot plan, ensuring fire and emergency considerations are embedded in design.Provide input into infrastructure planning, influencing the future Site Operations service provision.Incident Coordination & CommunicationWork closely with the Security Control Room, the hub for incident coordination, to ensure effective Command, Control, Communication, and Coordination (C3) practices.Oversee the site radio system, ensuring reliable communication during emergencies.Protocols & Continuous ImprovementEnsure fire incident protocols are fully integrated into Security Control Room operations.Identify and implement improvements, using insights from drills, incidents, and stakeholder feedback.Health & Safety SupportSupport health and safety arrangements throughout the construction phase, ensuring fire safety is embedded in all site activities.Support emergency preparedness, training exercises, and compliance with nuclear emergency plans.Integrate contractor partners into SZC’s emergency and fire arrangements.Contribute to site-wide emergency planning, design input, and incident management systems. What We’re Looking ForEssential:Proven leadership in large, complex project environments.Extensive experience in firefighting operations (Watch/Station Manager level or above).Strong contract and commercial management skills.Advanced qualifications in Fire Safety, Incident Management, and Project/Programme Management (Level 5/7).Knowledge of JESIP and emergency coordination principles.Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.Desirable:Experience on COMAH sites or large-scale civil infrastructure projects.Familiarity with Principal Contractor roles and CEMAR software.
