We are looking for a Works Supervisor to support the Recreation Manager in planning and implementing all aspects of recreational management including
- Supervise and inspect the Recreation Infrastructure Maintenance-Arboretums,car parks,trails,cycle tracks
- Income generation - Supervise and monitor our licensees across the forest.
- Supervise directly employed staff
- Maintaining our H&S and legal obligations
- Maintaining requirements associated with UKWAS
- Ensuring that we can deliver income generation&that business critical areas are delivered as priority
You will supervise a team of 5 dedicated craftspeople and a range of specialist contractors,to ensure that works meet contract specifications,safety standards,timescales and delivers value for money
You will be working as an integral part of the Forestry England New Forest Recreation Team to supervise internal staff and contractors to maintain recreation facilities and site infrastructure:Car parks,cycle routes and trails within the forest to ensure that we deliver a highquality visitor experience Maintaining our health safety and legal obligations, maintaining requirements associated with UKWAS Ensuring that we deliver income generation and that business critical areas are delivered as a priority. Working across The New Forest, you will also work with the supervisors of the wider Beat teams to combine craftspeople and machinery to maintain our visitor facilities, making sure our visitors have a smooth,inclusive and enjoyable experience.You will help cultivate a supportive and positive work environment that encourages teamwork, productivity and individual growth.

Our South England Forest District team is made up of around 170 people with a diverse range of roles from foresters and wildlife rangers to civil engineers,and ecologists to marketing professionals.We all contribute towards the management of 46,000 hectares of public forest estate that stretch from Sussex to Dorset,and from Berkshire to the Isle of Wight.Nearly all of our forests are within either a National Park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Much of this forest is of high national importance for nature conservation and wildlife, and of international importance for biodiversity.South England Forest District is therefore responsible for land that includes Special Areas of Conservation (for habitats),Special Protection Areas (for birds) and Ramsar sites (for wetlands).We also provide public access and recreation in our forests,with nearly 50 million visits every year to South England Forest District.
Key responsibilities & accountabilities
- Supervise operational sites to identify health, safety, and environmental issues, and take corrective action.
- Work with the Recreation Manager to co-ordinate recreational management, maintenance, activities, projects and resources across the New Forest, delivering the aspirations of our New Forest Plan.
- Supervise the recreational facility inspections system.
- Review recreational principles and processes and deliver best practice.
- Supervise the New Forest Recreation Team in planning and delivering visitor site maintenance and development.
- Support the wider teams in managing community engagement and the provision of engagement opportunities at recreation facilities.
- Support and work with the New Forest Recreation Manager on delivering best practice engagement at our key visitor sites and furthering our ambitions under the New Forest Business Plan and Recreation Management Strategy.
