Highways Operations - Delivering Vital Community Services
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Highways Operations Team for a Driver to join their dedicated team!
The team plays a vital role in managing the council’s asset strategy for highways, grounds maintenance, and street cleansing. Their responsibilities include routine highway maintenance, winter maintenance, and responding to emergency situations on the highway. They also provide essential support to other agencies as part of the Local Resilience Forum (LRF), including a 24-hour response service.
In this role, you will be responsible for driving and operating a range of vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes—and where specified, up to 7.5 tonnes—including tractors and associated equipment, tippers, off-road vehicles, lorries, cage vehicles, vans, green machines, and mowers. Your duties will include delivering essential highway services such as routine maintenance, grass cutting, hedge trimming, grip cutting, weed control, sign cleaning, street cleaning, pumping, and general upkeep. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting minor works, such as issues with signage, white lining, and other related maintenance needs.
A full driving licence is essential, enabling the operation of vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and, where required, 7.5 tonnes. You should have at least one year of experience in the agricultural, street scene, or local highways sector, with proven ability to operate a variety of vehicles. Additionally, you must hold the appropriate licences to operate relevant equipment such as forklifts, diggers, and dumpers. A high level of practical, hands-on experience is essential for success in this role
