Detailed job description and main responsibilities High level of colleague/team communication and relationship skills. Demonstrates extensive knowledge relevant to the field, supported by formal qualifications, training, and professional experience. Employs critical thinking to assess situations, weigh options, and makes informed decisions, often under pressure. Leads the creation or refinement of policies and procedures to align with organisational goals and regulatory standards. Drives the implementation of new services or improvements, ensuring they meet stakeholder needs and deliver measurable impact. Supports managing physical assets, such as technology, facilities, or equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and usage. Ensures compliance with data protection laws and best practices, safeguarding sensitive information. Collaborates with stakeholders and colleagues to develop and test new methodologies, tools, or strategies to improve practices or outcomes. Able to translate research findings into actionable improvements or initiatives. Qualifications Essential - Literate and numerate. - Degree in IT related subject OR equivalent qualifications OR equivalent experience Desirable - Professional IT qualification such as MCP or CCNA or graduate diploma level equivalent OR equivalent experience. - Successfully completed relevant formal specialist IT training courses. Experience Essential - In-depth experience of working in a Windows based PC TCP/IP network environment in an IT support role. - Experience in a technical implementation role with Windows server systems, desktop/laptop PC deployments. - Experience of working in a Windows Active Directory environment. - Experience of working with Unified Endpoint Management Systems. - IT security experience. Desirable - IT user training experience. - NHS/Healthcare or Public Sector experience. - Experience of managing small IM&T projects. - Experience of configuring modern telephony systems. - VMWare ESX server infrastructure. Skills Essential - Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also under own initiative. - Close attention to detail. - High level of numeracy, literacy and computer literacy. - Planning, prioritisation and organisational skills to deal with a broad range of complex ongoing activities. - Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex technical information to both specialists and non-specialists in writing, over the telephone and at meetings. Able to relate well to staff at all levels. - Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive information. - Ability to cope with unpredictable work patterns where there are frequent interruptions. - Ability to make judgements involving complex information which requires the analysis and comparison of a range of options. - Ability to work effectively (sometimes for prolonged periods) in unpleasant working conditions (e.g. low temperature, noisy rooms, restricted spaces, dusty or noisy equipment and areas). - Ability to manage small IM&T projects and technical implementations. - Ability to assist with project planning and implementation. - Ability to train other users & IT staff on new and existing technologies. - Must be customer focused. Desirable - Developed project management skills. - Developed communication and negotiating skills for effective relationship management with suppliers and other NHS organisations. - Ability to contribute to the development of IM&T procedures and policies. Knowledge Essential - Knowledge should be equivalent to a degree in IT related subject ideally gained from relevant experience. - Good knowledge of a range of common computer hardware (particularly PCs and printers). - Extensive knowledge of Windows client and server operating systems, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and ethernet networking. - Solid theoretical knowledge of Windows Active Directory, Group Policies, Exchange and Microsoft Office. - Data protection legislation.
