Oncology Typist/Admin Assistant Band 2

Division of Surgery & Cancer

*Please note thisrole is 17 hours per week to be worked over two 8.5 hour days on Thursday and Friday 8am - 5pm.*

An opportunity has arisen within the Oncology Department for a motivated and enthusiastic Typist to join their administration team.

We are looking for someone with fast, accurate typing skills and the ability to provide administration support to a busy team who provide a secretarial/administration service for visiting Oncology Consultants and their clinical teams. You will be motivated, well organised, possess excellent communication skills and be able to work on your own initiative. The post is primarily a role around typing of clinical letters and therefore knowledge of medical terminology and audio typing is desirable.

Previous experience in a similar role and knowledge of the hospital patient management system is essential.



JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will assist the PA/APA to provide a comprehensive administration and typing service to the Consultant team/clinical professional team.

SERVICE DELIVERY

1. To assist the PA/ APA in providing a comprehensive secretarial service, organising and making arrangements, typing and distribution of documents and reports, recording information and filing, ensuring that all information and documentation is produced to expected standards of performance, and according to agreed timescales,

2. Provide a comprehensive clerical service to the Divisions, undertaking all relevant work-related tasks including retrieval, preparation and filing of patient information/data, arranging transport, booking appointments, correspondence, photocopying, faxing and emailing, distributing reports and letters according to the requirements of the service, where appropriate,

3. Update patient information/data when patients have been seen, according to the agreed quality standard, locate and retrieve supplementary documentation for patient information/data as required, filing diagnostic reports and essential documents in the appropriate place.

4. Be able to use the required electronic systems for correspondence, clinic management and the retrieval of results, as and when required.
