Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow [JCF] in Stroke to join our well established Medical team.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate full completion of (2 years) Foundation Training programme. In addition, applicants must have at least year experience post Foundation Training programme in order to apply for this position.

Full GMC registration, with a licence to practice, at time of application is essential.

The post will be based at Royal Preston Hospital and will be working on both the Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke Unit.

You will:

1. Participate in the day to day functioning of Stroke Medicine, predominantly on the Stroke Ward.

2. Liaise closely along with Consultants, Registrars CMT and GPST doctors, stroke specialist nurse, and with Emergency department colleagues and MAU team assessing acute strokes for further management.

3. Participate in Consultant led ward rounds and Registrar ward rounds.

4. Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.

5. Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.

6. Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the critical care environment.

7. Maintain continuing education and professional development.

9. Actively participate in the audit process and mortality morbidity reviews.

You will be expected to play a full part in departmental audit and clinical governance programmes.

Part of the Medical Directorate at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Stroke Medicine is provided at both Hospital sites Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital) and serves a local population of 390,000.

This proactive service consists of acute stroke services across both sites as well as an emergency TIA service at RPH, TIA clinics and stroke rehabilitation at CDGH.

The Stroke medicine service is closely integrated with the Neurosciences Directorate, which provides regional neurosciences for a population of 1.5 million residents in Lancashire and South Cumbria. Services within this include;

1. Regional neuroscience led stroke interventional service, with provision of Vascular Neurology

2. Neurosurgery, Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology,

3. Neuro-critical Care and Neuro-rehabilitation.

First opened in July 2008 the Acute Stroke Unit at the RPH site is a modern purpose built unit with 23 beds including an escalation bed. The Unit is modern and fully equipped, including five beds with physiological monitoring, large bedside spaces to facilitate therapy from day one and a physiotherapy gym.
