21 hours per week to be worked within normal working hours with flexibility to work occasional Fridays. (Normal office hours are from 9.00 to 17.00 with an hour for lunch (unpaid), Monday to Friday)
At times there will be a need to work in the evenings and at weekends therefore a high degree of flexibility may be required in working hours, for which time off in lieu is allowed. Duration of Post:
Permanent, subject to funding. There is a probationary period of 6 months.Remuneration:
£28173 pro rata
Travel costs: as per HMRC mileage rate, i.e. 45p currently. Commuting between home and the main office mileage is not covered.
Area of Remit:
Sutherland and Edderton.
Role:
The position overview is to assist and support the Chief Officer deliver the following functions:-
· Be a central source of knowledge of the third sector locally
· Voice – ensuring a strong third sector voice
· Build capacity of community groups to achieve positive change
· Connect – providing support for local third sector to better respond to local priorities including through partnership and collaboration
MAIN TASKS
This job description is broad-based and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all possible duties as it is recognised that jobs change over time.
Ø To investigate the merits of a third sector community map in Sutherland and potentially produce an online directory.
Ø To setup, co-ordinate and facilitate a Village Halls Network, Funding Forum, and a Third Sector Health and Social Care Network. To assist/facilitate other Forums/Networks as the need may arise.
Ø To produce information material that supplements the forums and community groups in general – eg changes in legislation affecting community buildings (eg Martyns Law), funder finder lists, other policies. Review VGS’s current template policies store.
Ø To provide a link with public and other agencies to improve the planning and delivery of public services by making them more responsive to the needs and aspirations of the local community and that the principles of partnership working are adopted as a measure of good practice. Ensure useage of the principles of the National Standards of Engagement
Ø Support capacity building for Third Sector organisations to participate in public sector decision making structures.
Ø To encourage collaboration and co-production within the Third Sector.
Ø Build relationships with local community groups and support them in developing projects:
To assist providing 1-1 organisational support, including health checks. This may include crisis intervention (but not mediation) and governance coaching and to adopt good governance practice.
To promote good practice for project development through assistance and advice on business planning, costing and budgeting, applying for funding, managing funds, recruiting and managing staff etc.
To assist community groups in identifying and securing funding opportunities for projects
To respond to local needs in order to promote and develop the capacity of the voluntary and community sector, thus enabling and empowering the sector to be self-reliant in the future.
Ø Contribute to the efficient delivery of the organisation’s objectives and the HTSI Workplan. To work collectively across the team and wider HTSI network collaboratively, respectfully, fairly and honestly; always undertaking to represent the organisation in an appropriate manner and with the integrity expected by VGS
All Staff Duties: Maintain accurate and up to date records using the Charity Log database and any other data system as used by VGS. To prepare and assist with reports, articles, and any VGS monitoring requirements. To attend staff and other meetings of VGS as required. Monitor and produce articles for social media.
