Job Title: Senior Mental Health Practitioner Trust :Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Pay Rates:£20.15 / hour + accrued holiday pay Shift Pattern Monday to Sunday (Flexible, would prefer few hours each day) Shift Timings 8AM to 8PM (Flexible, would prefer 8AM to 2PM) Start Date :- ASAP Duration :- 4 months (subject to review) About the Trust Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides a wide range of hospital-based and community services across Worcestershire with specialist services including oncology, radiotherapy, stroke services and cardiac stenting. What you can add: Dimensions Responsibilites :- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are offered acrossWorcestershire. The age range is 0-18 years for children referred to the service withmental health problems. Members of the Multi-disciplinary CAMHS Service include Consultant Psychiatrists andother medical staff, Clinical Psychologists, Child Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Mental Health Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists and dietician. A key part ofeach local team is a number of Nurses who have a significant level of experience and awide range of specialist skills. The post holder will be a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team and will carrycontinuing responsibility for the assessment, treatment and management of a definedcaseload. Where appropriate, they will be required to liaise with other local agenciesincluding Tier IV inpatient and specialist centres, as well as the Mental Health LiaisonTeam and the home treatment team. Referrals are accepted from a wide range of professionals and agencies and we will beprogressing to accept self-referral. Families of the referred children or adolescents are included in the assessment and ongoing management of the cases. This will include the use of a range of approachese.g. psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive and psychopharmological, as appropriate,within the overall framework of the multi-disciplinary team. Clinical Responsibilities :- 1. Ensure that each referred patient and where necessary their family receives anindividual specialist assessment, risk assessment and care plan and is the subject ofregular evaluation which, wherever practicable is formulated in conjunction with thepatient and/or their family. 2. Provide specialist interventions for referred children and their families, within atherapeutic framework, both individually, with families and in groups. Also providing advice and support for other professionals as required. 3. Establish and maintain supportive and therapeutic relationships with children and theirfamilies referred to the local Team. 4. Act as the key worker for an identified caseload. 5. Prepare assessments, treatment reports and discharge summaries, in accordance withlocal policies. 6. Operate in any appropriate setting including hospital, primary care facilities, residentialhomes, schools and units and if appropriate the childs own home. 7. Provide a range of services and approaches as part of the Senior Practitioner role ieconsultation, specialist advice, clinical supervision and support to those working withchildren i.e. those in primary care, health visitors, school nurses, teaching staff,residential staff, social workers, , youth service, etc. 8. Promote knowledge of mental health and the prevention of mental ill health withchildren and members of the general public, both formally and informally. 9. Foster close working relationships with all appropriate agencies and networks in thefield of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, locally, regionally and nationally. 10. Participate in regular clinical and safeguarding supervision sessions with an appropriatesupervisor. 11. Develop and/or take a lead in a specialist area, as agreed within the local team e.g. CBT, Family Therapy, management of the waiting list etc. 12. Participate as an administrative clinician in the CAMHS Single Point of Access service,to assess referrals as they come into the service and liaise with referring agents. Other Duties :- 1. Ensure that all case records are maintained accurately, legibly and contemporaneouslyand that all information acquired in the course of carrying out their duties is treated inthe strictest confidence but is shared with all professional colleagues in line withinformation sharing policy/protocol 2. Maintain and record accurate data and statistics and provide these as required to anyappropriate officer of the Trust. 3. Where appropriate, lead, participate or co-ordinate clinical audits with the departmentand assist with the evaluation of departmental activity. 4. Maintain an up to date knowledge of all departmental, Service and Trust policies andprocedures, applying them as required The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above. What youll need: Qualifications: Professional clinical qualification RMN / OT / Social Worker etc. Evidence of post registeredclinical qualifications/training orbe able to demonstrate anequivalent level of training to aminimum of post graduatediploma level Current registration with relevantprofessional body Specific qualification in a relevant therapeutic speciality e.g. counselling, Family Therapy, CBT, substance misuse Non-medical prescriber Knowledge : Working knowledge of Health Service Working knowledge of mental health issues in CAMH Services A good knowledge of own professional guidelines such as NMC/HCPC Good knowledge of recognised disorders and illnesses in the field of mental health Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with children and families in distress Hold an interest in a specialist area Knowledge of the Mental Health Act Experience :- Extensive post registration experience in mental health care including mental health assessment and risk assessment Use of therapeutic interventions within mental health settings i.e. 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work Delivering teaching / training Providing consultation Working with children and young people Working in inpatient settings Liaison across Tier I-IV CAMH Services Providing care in community settings Developing a specialist area on behalf of the Service/ or local Team Developing policies and protocols Working in a multi-disciplinary Team Supervising less experienced members of staff Essential Requirement Needs to be a driver *Depending on the Trust, you may require variable additional certification and skills.
