Head of Sensory Support Centre (SSC) - Crawley

Are you a passionate and experienced leader dedicated to empowering students with sensory impairments? A thriving and inclusive secondary school in Crawley is seeking an exceptional individual to lead its Sensory Support Centre (SSC) and make a profound difference in the lives of its students.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of sensory support within a vibrant educational environment. The SSC provides specialist provision for students with hearing and visual impairments, ensuring they receive the tailored support and resources needed to access a full and enriching curriculum.

We are looking for a Head of SSC who will:

  • Lead and inspire: Provide strategic leadership and management for the SSC, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Champion inclusive education: Ensure all students within the SSC receive high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning experiences that meet their individual needs.

  • Manage and develop a specialist team: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the SSC, including line management of specialist teachers and support staff, ensuring their professional development and well-being.

  • Collaborate effectively: Work closely with parents, mainstream teachers, external agencies, and the wider school leadership team to ensure seamless integration and support for SSC students.

  • Drive positive outcomes: Monitor and evaluate the progress of SSC students, implementing data-driven strategies to maximise their academic, social, and emotional development.

  • Advocate for sensory awareness: Promote understanding and awareness of sensory impairments across the school community.

The successful candidate will likely possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a relevant specialist qualification in Hearing Impairment (HI) and/or Visual Impairment (VI).

  • Significant experience working with students with sensory impairments, ideally within a leadership or management capacity.

  • A deep understanding of the diverse needs of students with HI and VI, and proven strategies for effective differentiation and support.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

  • A commitment to inclusive education and a passion for making a tangible difference to young people's lives.

Why this school?
