Your New Company

Hays Education are working on behalf of a well-established SEMH secondary school in North Manchester to recruit a dedicated and passionate Humanities Teacher for a September start. This specialist provision supports pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside additional learning or behavioural challenges. The school is part of a progressive multi-academy trust that champions trauma-informed practice, relational teaching, and inclusive education. With small class sizes, a strong pastoral team, and a therapeutic approach to behaviour, the school provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where students are supported to thrive both academically and emotionally. This is a full-time, temporary role starting in September 2025, with a strong likelihood of becoming permanent for the right candidate.

Your New Role

  • Plan and deliver creative, accessible lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning in a supportive classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, teaching assistants, and pastoral staff to provide holistic support
  • Contribute to a school culture that promotes emotional regulation, resilience, and respect
  • Support students in achieving recognised qualifications and preparing for life beyond school

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching Humanities subjects (History, Geography, RE) at KS3 and KS4
  • A strong understanding of SEMH, SEND, and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Hays
  • Experience in a specialist provision, PRU, or alternative education setting is essential
