This post provides an exciting opportunity to work at registrar level in a large teaching hospital in the heart of Lancashire. In this post you will be an integral part of the team, have time to develop your interests in audit, research and education and will work alongside innovative and nationally renowned clinicians who are specialists in their field.
This post will enable the post holder to gain experience in elderly medicine in a supportive and educationally-focused environment and although this is not a formal training post the post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor and provided access to the national e-portfolio.
This post would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and also individuals with equivalent experience. Posts will provide excellent experience and training for those looking to progress to speciality training and also for those looking to go down the non-consultant career grade or SAS route.
You will work in an Elderly Care department with 4 Consultant Geriatricians. Your team consists of 1 Consultant and 2 Junior Clinical Fellows. The Post holder will be responsible to the Consultant Geriatricians, predominantly working on Rookwood B Ward at Chorley Hospital.
You will gain experience in both acute and elderly medicine and would be excellent preparation for a doctor looking to enter specialist training post in geriatric medicine and /or general medicine.
There will also be opportunities to perform procedures, develop communication skills (including obtaining collateral histories and advance care planning) and participate in multidisciplinary team working (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy).
You can expect training in both general medicine and comprehensive geriatric assessment. It is expected that you will participate in the weekly departmental meeting and medical grand round. In addition, there is a monthly meeting to discuss clinical governance issues. The post holder will have the opportunity to teach 4th year undergraduate students during their “Ageing and complex health module”, 5th year during clinical placement and junior doctors working in Elderly Medicine.
The post holder will also be involved in the general medicine on-call rota (as the other middle grades and consultants are involved). The on-call is based on the medical admissions unit (MAU) at Chorley Hospital.
Our department offers you the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in CGA and experience in caring for patients with traumatic injuries. You will also develop non-clinical skills in service development and quality improvement. You will be exposed to clinical governance aspects of the service (for example observational attendance at Coroners Court). Although this is not a formal training post, you will receive close clinical supervision in a supportive learning environment. You will receive educational opportunities and time to develop your interests and Portfolio.
We will care for your health and wellbeing alongside our training registrars and junior doctor team. You will work within this supportive team which is continually striving to learn and improve.
