Summary
We are seeking a passionate and resilient SEMH Maths Teacher to join a dynamic specialist school in Bishop's Stortford. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in August 2025, ideal for a confident subject teacher who understands the power of connection and creativity in the classroom.
White Trees School supports students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced disrupted education or trauma. As a Maths Teacher, you'll go beyond the numbers - using structured routines, patience, and flexibility to engage learners who may have previously struggled to access mainstream settings.
You'll be joining a dedicated team that works closely with pastoral and therapeutic staff to create a nurturing environment where students can rebuild confidence, re-engage with learning, and succeed academically. Your lessons will be smaller in size, but larger in impact.
This school values trauma-informed approaches and supports staff with regular CPD, coaching, and professional development. In return for your dedication, you'll receive a competitive salary and the reward of truly making a difference.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver Maths lessons tailored to learners with SEMH needs
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff
• Differentiate content to suit a range of academic levels and learning styles
• Create a calm, safe classroom culture where students can re-engage with learning
• Work collaboratively with therapists, TAs, and the pastoral team
• Track and report progress in line with individual learning plans
• Contribute to the wider school community and student wellbeing initiatives
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
• Experience teaching Maths at KS3 and/or KS4
• Knowledge of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, or alternative provision
• Strong behaviour management and communication skills
• Ability to build rapport and maintain firm, respectful boundaries
• Passionate about inclusion and helping young people succeed
• Previous experience in an SEMH or specialist setting is advantageous
